Semarang: To get the trust of holding the 2019 ASEAN Schools Game (ASG) is quite an honor for Indonesia, especially Semarang City. Overall, the Chairman of Technical Committee of ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASSC), Ong Kim Soon, has expressed his appreciation to Indonesia for giving the best in holding the event.
This is the second time for Indonesia to be the host of ASG. In 2012, Surabaya was chosen as the host. In this second chance, ASSC reputed there are a lot of improvements.
“Thank you Indonesia for hosting ASG. So far everything has been great, from technical implementation to venue, all was good. Despite the obstacles, like non-punctual athletes, the committee could make adjustment in instance, like changing schedule,” he said.
“It was a great move since it is not happening in many international sports event. But since it is ASG, we would like to give more opportunity for the student-athletes to compete. That’s why we truly appreciate of what the host did to the kids,” the man from Singapore said.
“I think Indonesia is fantastic. In the 11 years of ASG, this is the second time for Indonesia to be the host. So, there are improvements here and there. Not only from professionalism perspective, but also the spirit and how the athletes interacting with each other. This is so good. We appreciate it,” he added.
ASG is an annual sports multi-event for students in ASEAN, organized under ASSC. Beside the match, another important point is the values of solidarity, brotherhood and friendship amongst ASEAN student-athletes, even more youngsters of ASEAN.
“This competition also acts as a place where the students understand history and culture of each country. I believe this is the key of ASG, which is to ask the youngsters, student-athletes, to strengthen the solidarity in ASEAN. In the hope of they will grow with an understanding that beside their own country, there is a bigger community that they have to love and fight for as well, which is ASEAN. We need to support and give strength to each other,” he explained. (dok/asg2019)
